July is National Ice Cream Month! There are a lot of ice cream recipes out there. But with Covid-19 out & about, it can get hard to fight boredom with everything being canceled, especially if you have kids at home. Even though things in life aren’t going as planned, we can still have fun at home or anywhere else we might be. Here I have listed 10 fun & educational dairy-related activities you can do with friends & family.

1: Easy Peasy Ice Cream

I tried this recipe myself! Super tasty. Perfect for any occasion too! You can find this recipe on Handletheheat.com & you don’t even need an ice cream maker. You can make this tasty treat easily with a simple kitchen mixer. Even if you don’t have a kitchen mixer on hand, no problem. There are other methods to make it. On this website, there are also multiple flavors to choose from. I added berries and some graham cracker crumbs to the cheesecake recipe and it was just as good as Cold Stone!

2: Easy DIY Cow Craft

Who doesn’t love crafts? This easy DIY cow craft is super easy & fun to make. Plus, it’s cute to show to your friends & family. You will need 2 pieces of paper, scissors, glue, & a black marker. You simply make 2 paper balls, glue them together, & add their features!

3: Make a farm through Minecraft or other games

Even though I’m not a serious Minecraft player, Minecraft gives a pretty accurate description on what the usual dairy farm is like. Other games similar to Minecraft are pretty cool too.
Here’s an example of a simple dairy farm you can make through video games: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sHlYsc3kbpc

4: Try out some puzzles

I love puzzles! With not a lot to do, they are fun to try out.

Start with this fun 100 piece puzzle, & if you want to take on the challenge of MORE than 100 pieces… Go for it.

Challenges & puzzles are so fun & Amazon has more colorful cow puzzles online. Try them all out!

5: Send a friend a card

Even though we can easily call or text friends & family with our phones, computers, iPods, & so on, why not try a new way? This article provides a step-by-step guide to create adorable 3-D ice cream-themed cards.

6: Make a DIY Bookmark

This craft is perfect for all book lovers! Super easy & fun craft to make too. All you need is a craft stick (large lollipop stick), white & black paint, marker, wiggle eyes, pink black & white craft foam, & glue. All of the instructions to make this craft can be found here. Try it out!

7: Try out some old fashioned butter

Here is a fun recipe to make old fashioned butter in a jar. All you need is 1 cup of heavy whipping cream, 1 16 oz jar of any kind, & some cold water. Try it! It’s really fun to make some homemade tasty butter for your morning toast.

8: Make & bake some tasty dairy meals

There are so many tasty dairy recipes! Ranging from snacks & breakfasts to lunches & dinners, The Dairy Alliance has it all. Click here to try out some recipes you have never tried before. Every recipe has a different nutritional value & is always good for you in some way.

9: Learn about where your milk comes from

While this may not be a subject that sounds or looks super exciting, once you take a glance at your local dairy farm, it opens a whole new view! Did you know, there are about 34,187 dairy farms in the USA? Or did you know that 97% of those farms are family owned & operated? What a large number! Click here to learn even more about our cool dairy farms & the people who own them.

10: Get creative on how to add more dairy to your diet

There are so many dairy products! But, if you don’t like to eat or drink plain cheese or milk, get creative. Try adding your milk to your smoothies, make homemade pizza with the family, stuff your breakfast croissants or rolls with butter or cheese, or add cheddar cheese to your biscuits. Try things you’ve never tried before. Look at how other countries (like Germany or Britain) use dairy in their foods. There is obviously a wide variety of ways to eat or drink your dairy. The U.S. Department of Agriculture recommends about 3 cups of dairy to be added into your diet. I promise you that once you try out some dairy recipes, it just might become a daily routine in your life.

These are just a few ideas to keep you busy. You can search online to find more fun activities to do & crafts to make. Even with Covid-19 swinging in, nobody said we can’t have fun & learn new things in different ways. It is extremely important we know where our food comes from & why it is beneficial to our health. So the next time you are at your local grocery store, or when the community opens up & you find yourself at your local dairy farm, check out all of the cool things our dairy farmers have done for us. They have provided the nutrition our community needed & have been there, working hard. Support your local dairy farmers!
