Course Description

Chemistry is the study of matter: anything that has mass and takes up space.  In this year-long course high school chemistry class for homeschoolers, students will explore the fundamentals of chemistry including atomic structure, states of matter, the organization (and beauty) of the periodic table, ionic and covalent bonding, chemical nomenclature, the mole concept, stoichiometry, chemical reactions, thermochemistry, the behavior of gases, and acids and bases.

Concepts will be taught using a variety of methods including lectures, videos, virtual and hands-on labs, interactive simulations, and textbooks.  Students will learn how they use chemistry in everyday life and learn to see science all around them.

Students should be prepared to complete weekly homework assignments designed to aid them in understanding and practicing chemistry concepts.

Credit Hours: 1 High School Credit (on completion of both semesters)

Spring Dates: January 4 – April 30  (any week in March can be taken for Spring break)
