This is a one semester online homeschool art history class for high schoolers. It is worth .5 fine arts credit. We will utilize the book The Annotated Mona Lisa: A Crash Course in Art History from Prehistoric to the Present, as well as additional videos, quizzes, and other materials throughout the semester to gain a good overall knowledge of art history from 19th century Impressionism through the present.

This class is designed to expose students to many different artists, artworks, styles, movements, and more in art history, but also to be fun!

Art History can be used as a Fine Arts credit for high school.

Students work at their own pace, and parents do the grading. Rubrics, an answer key, and an answer sheet are provided to give parents guidance as they grade.

We don’t use textbooks and there will only be a few quizzes – no tests or exams. Mastery of the material will be evaluated through projects and the responses to the material studied.

The class is taught by 3 moms who couldn’t find a fun, interesting, and useful Health curriculum for their own children, so they decided to create one. It will not cover sex education (we will cover the reproductive system as part of body systems but not in much detail) as we believe that is best taught by parents.

It is no longer enough for students to just know how to use a word processor, spreadsheet and create slideshows. There are a vast number of tools now being used regularly at college and in the work place that students should be comfortable using. This course  in digital literacy will start with the basics but will also cover  Google Drive and other Google tools, graphics and movie creation, Notion, project management tools, and many other software applications.

Students will learn to work in an online environment – something which is becoming more and more common in the workplace. And they will learn how to conduct effective searches, spot online scams, evaluate online sources and more.

Each unit study is individually worth $20, making it $140 to purchase all 7,  so by purchasing the full course, you will save $40 in addition to receiving a bonus unit study worth $20.

In total there are 32 modules so if students do one a week, this will take them one year to complete. Students can, however, take as long as they want and all students in a family can use it.

Activities include watching videos, reading articles, playing games, and completing interesting projects. The projects will allow students to research topics and then present their research in a digital format–a poster, video, slideshow, etc.

You only need ONE per family! All family members can log in individually or you can go through it together as a family. But you only need to pay ONCE!

Any answer keys that are necessary are provided in the online classroom.

For those who remember the children’s program “Fetch” we use a similar style but adapt it for teens. Students taking the course will watch videos each week where 4 teens are taught some aspect of photography and then they are issued with a challenge. Once the online students have watched the teens perform the challenge, they get to complete the same challenges. They will also take online quizzes and do various other assignments each week.

This class is designed to teach many skills, but also to be fun! We use a free online tool to teach photo editing, so there is no need to buy anything extra for that.

Photography can be used as a Fine Arts credit for high school.
