In this course students will begin learning Classical Latin and developing an understanding of Roman Civilization, using the Cambridge Latin Course (CLC). As students read exciting stories based on the lives of actual historical people they will also be learning about everyday Roman life, customs, and values, with emphasis on the first century AD. This is a reading-based course with the purpose of developing students ability to read and use Latin. Grammar is learned, not as an end in itself, but as it is needed for a purpose in reading. As the student reads stories, questions about grammar will arise and be answered as they are encountered. Comprehension questions are used to assist and assess the development of reading skills.
Students will have subscribed access to CSCP’s Elevate web resources which include engaging online study aids for desktop and tablet (iOS and Android) platforms. The online resourses enable the student to hear Latin spoken and pronounced correctly, and to get immediate feedback as they read, study vocabulary, and grammar.
